Ex Populus licenses and operates the Xai brand, which has been promoted through official channels, events, and public documentation since last year.
The company said it had no choice but to act, citing trademark law requirements to defend the brand or risk forfeiture. Public confusion reportedly escalated after xAI entered the market with plans to expand into gaming. Instances of users attributing the Xai token to Musk, misusing the logo, and conflating the two brands have been cited as part of the legal basis for the complaint. Screenshots from Musk’s chatbot Grok, which reportedly confused the two entities, were also included in the evidence package.
