Quick Take
- GUNZ blockchain for Off the Grid surpasses 20 million NFT trades on OpenSea.
- Milestone highlights the scale of in-game item trading using GUN tokens.
- Achieved amid migration to mainnet and growing daily active users.
Off the Grid, the free-to-play battle royale game developed by Gunzilla Games, has seen its GUNZ blockchain cross 20 million NFTs traded on OpenSea. According to the official GUNZ account announcement on January 19, this figure underscores the volume of player transactions involving in-game items tokenized as NFTs. The game, which runs on an Avalanche subnet, lets participants collect items during matches and trade them peer-to-peer, with GUN tokens facilitating the process on the integrated OpenSea marketplace.
Gunzilla Games launched Off the Grid in 2025, positioning it as a title where all in-game assets get tokenized for ownership and exchange. Developers expect to release numerous items annually, anticipating high trade activity among potentially tens of millions of players. The OpenSea collection for Off the Grid currently lists over 21 million items, with trading focused on everything from basic supplies to rare gear that can influence match outcomes.
The milestone comes as Gunzilla migrates early players from testnet to mainnet, a process that started with the first 21,000 users. Data from Avalanche’s explorer indicates the mainnet recently peaked at over 22,000 daily active unique wallets, reflecting increased blockchain engagement tied to the game.
Gunzilla CEO Vlad Korolev described the achievement as evidence of a “real economy” at “real scale,” according to his post echoing the announcement. This level of trading suggests players are actively buying and selling to manage inventories, where running low on essentials or seeking advantages prompts marketplace visits.
Looking ahead, full mainnet access for all players could boost trade volumes further, as more players join and list items after purchasing battle passes. Developers say these passes are required for selling, a setup intended to streamline monetization through fees while keeping the core game free. Balance changes from such activity might echo past updates in similar titles, where sudden item scarcity has led to strategic adjustments and occasional adaptation challenges for the community.
