CCP Games announced plans to migrate EVE Frontier to the Sui blockchain in late March 2026, aligning the with the launch of Cycle 5 in the game’s development.
CPP Games built EVE Frontier as a space survival MMO where players explore, build, and battle in a universe filled with thousands of star systems. The game draws from the legacy of EVE Online, the long-running sci-fi epic known for its player economies and massive conflicts. Developers aimed to create a world where every ship and structure feels persistent and owned, letting survivors craft their own stories amid ruins and resources.
The team currently runs EVE Frontier through three-month cycles that reset the galaxy to test new features and gather feedback. Each cycle introduces mechanics like ship variants or base defenses, wiping progress to refine the core experience. Cycle 5 lands in late March 2026, where the full switch from an Ethereum-based testnet to Sui and the game’s assets and interactions move onchain without players needing to handle migrations themselves.
According to CCP Games, they picked Sui because of its object-centric design which can handle the game’s massive scale, treating ships and factories as individual entities with built-in rules. Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, the CEO, pointed out how Sui’s fast transactions and parallel processing keep actions smooth during crowded events. Features like zkLogin let players sign in with emails, while sponsored transactions hide gas fees, making the survival grind focus on strategy rather than network hurdles.
