The team behind Spellborne, the pixel-style monster-collecting RPG, has confirmed that its in-game token BORNE will launch in August via Blackhole DEX, a decentralized exchange built on Avalanche.
The announcement, shared on social channels earlier this week, describes BORNE as a “gateway to nostalgia” and mentions that its trading will be aligned with Blackhole’s ve(3,3) framework. No further details on tokenomics, staking, or distribution have been confirmed.
Spellborne’s developer, Mon Studios, has previously stated that BORNE will play a central role in the game’s economy. Players will use the token for crafting, monster minting, guild creation, and peer-to-peer marketplace trades. It will also be earnable through PvP, seasonal events, and monster sales.
No public launch date has been given yet, though the team said the token is set to go live later this month.
Part of a Broader Ecosystem Push
The upcoming token release follows a stretch of activity for Spellborne, which recently expanded to mobile platforms with full iOS and Android support. The game has now tracked over 30 million battles and more than 3.5 million monsters captured since launch.
In late July, the studio also confirmed plans to expand to Abstract Chain, a zkSync-based Ethereum Layer 2 developed by Igloo Inc. Abstract is designed for games and social apps, offering high-speed, low-cost transactions with zk rollup tech and EigenDA-based data availability.
The token launch and chain expansion point to a larger roadmap for Spellborne’s in-game economy and marketplace infrastructure, though timelines beyond the August listing remain unannounced.
What Is Blackhole DEX?
Blackhole is a decentralized exchange built on Avalanche, designed to serve as a liquidity hub for the ecosystem. The platform integrates cross-chain capabilities through LayerZero and features a unique governance structure using Supermassive veNFTs.
Unlike traditional vote-escrow models, Blackhole burns its native $BLACK token in exchange for governance rights and protocol fees. Its liquidity bootstrapping tools, like Genesis Pools and Bribe Markets, have attracted activity from DeFi and gaming projects across Avalanche.
While BORNE’s launch mentions alignment with Blackhole’s ve(3,3) framework, no specific implementation details have been confirmed by Mon Studios as of now.
